A SHOCKING EXPERIENCE

When I was 10 I had an electric shock that, according to the fireman, would’ve killed an elephant (the house set on fire, when the shock eventually ended, blowing all the fuse boxes off the wall and sending sparks all over the place, ergo, fireman).

He told my mother that with the amount of voltage that went through me I should be dead and so I must have a real purpose for living.

But then, don’t we all? It’s just whether the choice is made to grasp it or not.

I’ve done lots of things since that electrifying day.

DESIGNER TIMES

At college I studied fashion design, marketing and illustration, and became an illustrator working for various magazines and designers.

IF MUSIC BE THE FOOD OF LOVE..WHO COOKED THIS?! (or something like that)

Following that I worked in music full time…loved it and got involved in some great projects. Music is a real joy and even though I’m not involved on a professional level now it’s an integral part of life.Love playing it,creating it and through my working day it’s a constant presence!

MARKETING AND MANAGEMENT = FOOD AND JUICE

My next move in work was in marketing.Developing my skills and finding some new ones.

I subsequently ran two busy central London restaurants, and was co-founder and Managing Director of a fresh juice company, putting strategies in place to build a successful business from ground level to an annual 7 figure turnover .

HEY ASH.. TAKE A BREAK…PUT YOUR FEET UP…IN A HOSPITAL BED!!

All good stuff although working flat out for 2 years with barely a day off, heading up a company that saw rapid growth and with premium clients (such as Gordon Ramsey,The Ritz and Savoy Hotels and even Her Majesty The Queen!) was pretty, pretty, pretty stressful, which took it’s toll and taught me a tough lesson.

I finally had a break and took a trip down to New Zealand to stay with some friends (although I have to confess I did build some business into the trip!). I had a great time until on the plane on the way home I quite dramatically collapsed! I had no idea what was going on until a few weeks later when I ended up in hospital and found I had kidney problems and thanks to misdiagnosis, appendicitis which turned into Peritonitis.

Sometimes when things in life like this happen it’s a sign to listen up and act on it. I fully knew that it wasn’t just a couple of health issues,it was my body telling me to slow down, think about life, get some perspective and maybe even look at a new direction.

BACK TO MY ROOTS,BACK TO LIFE,BACK TO REALITY

In the following months I made, on one hand what seemed to be quite a drastic decision to leave London-the city where I had lived for over 20 years. On the other hand, I absolutely knew it was the right thing to do, so once I realised that it was quite easy.

I moved up to the rural north of England, quite literally to the place I was born-I bought a house from my parents that had been in my family for well over a century and the one in which I had spent the first 3 years of my life on earth. It was nice to have a different pace of life for a while following the hussle and bussle of London.

NEW HORIZONS-I CAN SEE CLEARLY NOW,THE PAIN HAS GONE…

During that time I offered my services as a business consultant, including brand identity, design work, and marketing.I also did some creative writing work, and taught Graphic Design in a college.

I enjoyed teaching in the college but it felt like there was more to be discovered, and to be honest,it was a bit safe and normal for me-I’m not really a work from 9 to 5 kinda guy,and I don’t look remotely like Dolly Parton.

I spent a lot of time thinking and praying about what would be the next direction for me,and developed a few different business ideas, but nothing concrete at that point.

LET’S TAKE A WALK…

One day I was at someone’s house when I saw a book called “If you want to walk on the water you have to step out of the boat!” and I thought to myself,”yeah that’s what I need to do..just take a step. It felt like it was time again. So I took the decision to hand my notice in and then left my lecturing post a few months later. Now I’m not saying that’s the right thing for everyone to do but I had a conviction that it was right for me.

GETTING CONNECTED,GETTING INSPIRED!

Shortly after I left I was looking at some motivational videos on YouTube and came across Dani Johnson. I watched one where she spoke of her life story and she had such an impact on me I went straight to her website. There I noticed that she was going to be delivering a seminar in London just 2 weeks later called First Steps To Success, and it was her first visit in over 2 years…the timing was perfect…and I knew I had to go.

It was amazing! She was amazing! She IS amazing!

It was through that weekend that I discovered the wonders of the world of Network Marketing. It felt like it was something I’d been waiting to do for a very long time! And I found that I could use the skills I have gained over the years and apply them to this fantastic industry. I now have multiple streams of income.

‘IF YOU’RE NOT FAILING NOW AND AGAIN, IT’S A SIGN YOU’RE PLAYING IT SAFE’ -Woody Allen

So life has been, and continues to be, a fascinating and varied journey.Of course like the rest of human kind I’ve made mistakes along the way,and taken a few risks too, some of which have paid off and some that haven’t,but the main thing is having the courage to take steps, and learn from them whatever the outcome, then stay true to yourself, be the unique and wonderful person that you’ve been created to be, and keep on growing and developing.

So I remain passionate about personal development; both my own ongoing development and developing the skills of others, with the aim of helping to equip people to build incredible businesses.

And that’s why I’m here now, sharing what I’ve learned from personal experience in life, and in business.

I hope you enjoy what I share and I hope that you get something from it.

Feel free to ask me questions about anything that’s relevant to the content of this blog-I’d love to hear from you.
