Facebook..Oooh…it’s getting serious!

HOW TO BUILD YOUR RELATIONSHIPS ON FACEBOOK… IN THE RIGHT WAY

One thing that is often overlooked is that you are adding on “friends” i.e. someone you will have a relationship with. Of course there are many of us who are connecting with people with the possibility that you could be creating a working relationship, but whether a relationship becomes a friendship or a working relationship, it’s still just that-A RELATIONSHIP!

I’ve had many people send me friend requests (and I’m sure I’m not alone here) and the first contact I get from them goes something like this “Hi Ashley, great to meet you, this is my business opportunity- I’d love you to join”.

Now that is no different to some guy coming up to me on the street and saying “hey buddy, you wanna go into business with me?” My only response to that would be “why on earth would I want to go into business with you-I have no idea who you are,and for that matter, you have no idea who I am!”

HI, I’M ASHLEY..!

Just as I was saying about people coming straight up to you to talk about their business, you wouldn’t go to a person and just start asking them questions without saying hello-it’s no different online…or at least it shouldn’t be.

So introduce yourself-Whenever you send a friend request to someone always include
a personal message. And if someone sends you a request without a message or doesn’t follow it up with a message, take the initiative.I know some may say “why should I? They sent me a request, they should do it”. Well…maybe, but it shows your intent and openness and if they don’t respond then it can probably be a good gauge of where they’re coming from and where your relationship is,or isn’t going.

HOW DO I LOOK…?

Okay, you’re going out on a first date, you check yourself in the mirror, you’re looking good, and you say to yourself “just be yourself!”

We all know how important that is,after all no-one is as good at being you as you are, So be the best you on Facebook! Don’t pretend to be something you’re not,and PLEASE don’t make every single status update related to your business opportunity.People will go into business with you primarily because of YOU,not because of what your business is,so whatever your content is make it one or more of the following: inspiring, informative, humorous, interesting. You want your Facebook image, i.e. the way people portray you, to be one that people can sum up into words like those I’ve just mentioned for your content. Who wants to be summed up as that annoying pain in the butt who is always posting that same status saying “who wants to earn $10,000 a week…I can show you how..” NOOOOO.

HAVE A COURTSHIP!

So we know we’re building relationships, and as I said before, online built relationships shouldn’t be treated any differently to any other, which means investment and also means they take time, which means patience. At the same time, you need to have the urgency, to work at your relationships regularly!

I’M SORRY…DID I SAY YOU COULD DO THAT??! (UH OH..ROCKY PATCH)

Don’t post business related links/information on other peoples pages without permission. The End.

GET ENGAGED!

Everyday on Facebook, someone changes their profile photo, adds new photos, has a birthday, or has mentioned something that is important to them in some way. Maybe they shared a resource that you found useful or you want to congratulate them on an achievement,or perhaps they just said something plain funny! If so,engage- notice, then let them know you noticed with a “like” and a comment.

AND THEY ALL LIVED HAPPILY EVER AFTER….

So in summary….treat online like offline, be respectful, and remember you’re building relationships and they take investment and time.

Social networking is not a short term strategy. It really is like a courtship so take the time to get “social” and actually have a relationship and then watch how amazing the union could become!
